HB Frazer, a preferred PECS contractor, is currently working on a welding shop, which will help local Berks County residents practice and train for a career in the manufacturing industry.
The Berks Career and Technology Center (BCTC), which serves 16 public school districts, private schools, county residents and businesses received the Training-to-Career grant to expand their welding program.
The grant was launched in 2017 as part of Governor Wolf’s Manufacturing PA initiative. It provided the BCTC with $200,000 to purchase new welding equipment and hire new staff members, including a welding instructor and outreach coordinator.
The brand new building will include a state-of-the-art weld shop, classrooms, offices and locker rooms for students.

The new construction will allow the facility to accommodate 40 students, up from the previous capacity of 25 students. The weld shop will house 38 welding booths and three outdoor booths.
Tasks performed by the electrical workers include the installation of an 800 amp service feed to feed the building, a state-of-the-art robotic plasma cutter and all LED lighting.
Workers used their experience, skills and knowledge to install 6,000 feet of underground conduit, and 5,000 square feet of exposed EMT conduit.
