Pennsylvania Electrical Contractor Solutions preferred contractor, Hirneisen Electric is on the job, turning what was once a hospital into a new dorm for the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.
The new dorm hall project will increase the on-campus living capacity by 300 residents.
Crews had just completed demolition of the existing structure, when Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf issued a “Stay at Home” order to shut down the state as a precaution to the coronavirus pandemic. This order halted construction for five weeks.
Once the order was eased, Hirneisen Electric brought in 12 highly trained and highly skilled electricians to complete the conduit and rough-in of the building. This enabled them to work ahead and only three electricians are currently on site to complete the finishes.
In preparation for finishing their rough-in, Hirneisen Electric pulled 40,000 feet of building wire, installed 14,000 feet of MC cable and 1,500 feet of one-inch and three-quarter inch EMT and feeder conduit.
Additional work included pulling 15,000 feet of fire alarm cable. They will be installing the fire system at a later date. While a separate contractor is handling the building’s teledata system, Hirneisen Electric roughed in 20,000 feet of data cable to be used for installations.
Thanks to past experience working with the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and their known expertise in educational construction, Hirneisen Electric was a perfect fit. So far, their electricians have worked safely and proactively to ensure the project will be completed in time for the fall semester, despite the five-week shutdown.
